What Is a Celebrant?

A celebrant is someone who officiates at a ceremony, such as a wedding, funeral, renewal of vows or baby naming. They work with their clients - you! - to create a bespoke and personalised ceremony that uniquely reflects the occasion and those involved.

In relation to weddings, a celebrant performs a ceremony (that can be both legally and non-legally binding) as an alternative to a church wedding or a marriage held in a registry office.

A celebrant can help you build the wedding day you have dreamed of, allowing you the freedom to enjoy a personalised and individual ceremony, which could include reciting of personalised vows, readings (both religious or non-religious), music, songs ... in fact anything!

In addition, a celebrant who conducts a non-legal or symbolic wedding ceremony can officiate at any wedding venue. For example, you can have the wedding in your back garden, your local pub, your favourite beach, in a castle, up a mountain, on a boat - anywhere that is important and special to you.

For more information on a Celebrant-led wedding, see my Ceremonies page, or contact me with any questions you may have.

Whatever your ceremony or event, a celebrant-led one will always be unique, incorporating your own special touches to ensure a day to always remember, both for you and those around you.

Why Choose a Celebrant?

  • Your ceremony is personalised from start to finish; I will meet with you, learn your story from which I will write a script for the ceremony to be approved by you.
  • Freedom to include whatever you like in your ceremony (rituals, your hobbies, your children, your pets, your friends, your heros!).
  • The opportunity to choose meaningful symbolic rituals, like handfasting, sand ceremony, candle ceremony, amongst others.
  • Over the course of planning your event, we will develop a friendship which means on the day of your ceremony the service will be officiated by someone who cares rather than a stranger.
